Notes Especially for Students
You can use the Internet Projects as a source for visualizing
the statistical concepts you learn in class in three ways:
- Use a project for the visualization tools
-
You can use the Analysis section as part of your exploration
of the project or simply as a supplement to help you understand
and visualize the concepts and techniques covered in the chapter.
This section is designed to be used as a tool for understanding
statistics, whether or not you are exploring the entire
case study. Here you will find demonstrations, animations and
graphics to help you visualize and sometimes interact with
the statistical concepts you're learning in class.
- Use a project as a chapter supplement
- Start with Background
Information. This will give you a summary of the
problem and put the subsequent analysis in a larger perspective.
-
The Data Views section of the project provide more detail on
the situation. You will see different aspects of the situation
in this section, using visualization techniques covered in
class.
- Use a project as a term project
-
If you are using a project as a starting place for a larger
project, such as a term paper or research project, use the
section on Further Research as a starting place.
Sometimes a project will visit only a small part of a much larger site. For
a larger research project, you may find it helpful to
explore the entire site which was only glimpsed in the chapter project.
