BioFlix™

Interactive tutoring on the toughest topics in biology

Have you ever wished for an effective tool to help your students visualize tough topics like a tour of the plant and animal cell, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, mitosis, meiosis, protein synthesis, or how neurons work? Our new 3-minute animations allow instructors to show 3D, fluid movement and dramatic "zoom" sequences that bring difficult-to-teach biological concepts to life during lectures. Each animation is accompanied by a PowerPoint® slideshow with screenshots identifying the main components of the animation. Students can prepare for exams by completing the tutorial, printing a personal review sheet, and taking a quiz.

Watch our newest video, BioFlix™: The Inside Story featuring a short interview with author, Eric Simon.

Here's what students are saying about BioFlix:

"I absolutely love the animation and graphics!"

How instructors are incorporating BioFlix into their course:

  • Use the PowerPoint® slides with labeled structures in lecture to guide your students through the processes at your own speed.
  • Start class with a movie! Have students watch the BioFlix video with narration at the beginning of class, then enhance the information with your lecture, go back before the class ends to watch the video again, this time without narration, and ask your class to explain what is happening. Use the pause feature on your video player to stop and highlight different aspects of the process.
  • Watch the BioFlix video in lecture and assign your students to watch it on their own and complete the assignable tutorial and the quiz.
  • Have your students print out the eStudy Sheet located on the book's website and fill it out while watching a BioFlix video. Then have them turn it in at the next class for homework.
  • Enhance your lectures by incorporating the BioFlix animations into your own PowerPoint® presentations!
