The Need for Java Enablement
The Quizzing section of this product contains
over 6000 quiz questions. These questions are presented using Java technology.
You need not know anything about Java, but your browser must have its Java
option enabled. Otherwise, the quizzes won't work.
The Need for JavaScript Enablement
The "left navigational" panel in the web site includes
a variety of links. Each of these links is colored white in its unselected
mode, and is colored yellow when selected. For instance, if you click on
the number "1" in the "choose a chapter" table, you will be taken to the
content for chapter 1, and the number 1 will remain yellow until you choose
another number from the "choose a chapter" table. This yellow highlight
color behaves as it does because of JavaScript. If you don't have your
browser's JavaScript option enabled, the highlight won't work.
Enabling Java and JavaScript
Below is information on how to check (and if needed enable)
the Java option and the JavaScript option in the Windows version of Internet
Explorer 4.0 and Netscape Navigator 4.08. The information may change slightly
on newer versions of these browsers.
Internet Explorer 4.0
Internet Explorer supports Javascript internally, and
there are no options that you as a user can turn on and off when it comes
to JavaScript. Thus, if you are an Internet Explorer user, JavaScript is
automatically enabled. As for checking for Java enablement, here are the
steps:
On the ensuing menu, click on the "Internet Options..." menu item.
An "Internet Options" dialog box will appear. This dialog box will have along its top 6 "tabs" (from "General" to "Advanced"). Click on the "Advanced" tab. Below is a screen capture of the contents of the "Advanced" tab, with the scrolling list scrolled down to "Java VM."
On the ensuing menu, click on the "Preferences..." menu item.
A "Preferences" dialog will appear. The left panel of this dialog box is a menu system entitled "Category." Click on the "Advanced" entry in this menu system. Below is a picture of the "Preferences" dialog box with the "Advanced" menu item selected.
