Dihydrouracil

Dihydrouracil is an intermediate in catabolism of pyrimidines (Figure 22.11). It is formed by reduction of uracil (Figure 22.11) and then converted to -ureidopropionic acid as shown in the reaction that follows:

Dihydrouracil + H2O <=> -Ureidopropionic Acid (catalyzed by Hydropyrimidine Hydratase)
