Sphinganine

Sphinganine is the an intermediate in biosynthesis of sphingolipids. It is made by reducing the carbonyl group of 3-ketosphinganine, as shown in Figure 19.13. Subsequently, sphinganine is made into a ceramide by addition of an acyl group to the amine, forming a peptide bond.
