Malonyl-CoA is an intermediate in fatty acid biosynthesis. It
is produced in the reaction that follows (Figure
18.24):
Acetyl-CoA + ATP + HCO3- <=> Malonyl-CoA + ADP + Pi + H+
Subsequently, Malonyl-CoA is converted to malonyl-ACP in the next reaction of fatty acid biosynthesis:
Malonyl-CoA + ACP <=> Malonyl-ACP + CoASH (catalyzed by Malonyl-CoA-ACP transacylase.)
