UDP-Glucose Pyrophosphorylase catalyzes the synthesis of UDP-glucose and PPi from UTP and glucose-1-phosphate.

Glucose-1-Phosphate + UTP <=> UDP-Glucose + PPi

UDP-glucose, produced in this reaction is subsequently used by the enzyme glycogen synthase to incorporporate glucose into the growing glycogen chain in glycogen synthesis.
