Succinate
is an intermediate of the citric acid
cycle (and the glyoxylate cycle) produced by action of
the enzyme succinyl-CoA synthetase
on succinyl-CoA. Succinate is converted to fumarate by
action of the enzyme succinate dehydrogenase
(with formation of FADH2)
