Acetate
in cells can be converted to a more activated form (acetyl-CoA)
by the following reaction:
Acetate + CoASH + ATP <=> Acetyl-CoA + AMP + PPi (catalyzed by Acetate Thiokinase)
Acetate is also produced in the reaction catalyzed by acetylcholinesterase in nerve tissue:
Acetylcholine + H2O <=> Choline + Acetate
