Pyruvate Kinase Regulation

The glycolytic enzyme, pyruvate kinase, is regulated by several mechanisms:

1. Liver pyruvate kinase is inhibited by high ATP.

2. Pyruvate kinase is activated by F1,6BP

3. Carbohydrate ingestion stimulates the enzyme

4. The liver pyruvate kinase is regulated by phosphorylation (less active) / dephosphorylation (more active). This is under hormonal control.

5. Glucagon represses synthesis of pyruvate kinase.
