Uronic acid is a name for a class of compounds made by converting
the primary alcohol group of an aldose (terminal carbon away from
aldehyde group) to a carboxyl group. Common uronic acids
include D-glucuronic
acid (shown at right), D-galacturonic acid, and D-mannuronic Acid. Uronic
acids are substituents in glycosaminoglycans.
