Homocysteine

Homocysteine is an intermediate in biosynthesis of cysteine, methionine, and in the breakdown of methionine. Recent research has indicated that elevated levels of homocysteine may correlate with increased incidence of vasuclar disease. Supplementation of diets with folic acid, cobalamin and pyridoxine appear to provide protection by lowering homocysteine levels in the blood.
