About the Authors

Michael P. Todaro is a Senior Associate at the Population Council, New York and was Professor of Economics at New York University for 20 years. He lived and taught in Africa for five years and also traveled and lectured extensively for two decades throughout Latin America and Asia. Selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Economics: A Biographical Dictionary of Major Economists, 1700-1980, Who's Who in the World, Exemplary Economist; North America, and Economists of the Twentieth Century, Professor Todaro is the author of eight books and more than forty articles on economic development.

Stephen C. Smith is Professor of Economics at George Washington University and author of Case Studies in Economic Development, Industrial Policy in Developing Countries, and over fifty other publications. Professor Smith has held a Fulbright Research Scholarship and a Jean Monnet Research Fellowship; has served as a consultant for the ILO, UN-WIDER, and the World Bank; and has been a visiting scholar at the National Institute for Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi. Smith also designed and served as the first director of George Washington University's International Development Studies Program.
