Key Content Changes

Linear Algebra and Its Applications, Updated 2/e
to
Linear Algebra and Its Applications, 3/e

The table of contents for this edition is substantially the same as that of the previous edition.  Some minor changes have been made throughout the book to improve clarity and coverage.  The major content changes are the following:

• Section 1.6, Applications of Linear Systems, is new to the 3/e.  It includes applications on the Leontief Economic Model, Solving Chemical Equations, and Traffic Flow.
• Section 2.6 from the Updated 2/e, Iterative Solutions of Linear Systems, has been removed from the 3/e.
• Section 2.9 from the Updated 2/e, Subspaces of Rn, has been has been split into two sections, 2.8 and 2.9. This forms a better bridge to Chapter 5 for those instructors who wish to cover Eigenvalues earlier in the course, or postpone or omit vector spaces.  This option is ideal for a shorter course.
