About Discovering Genomics, Proteomics,
and Bioinformatics
About the Authors
A. Malcolm Campbell is an associate professor of biology
at Davidson College, where he teaches a wide array of introductory
and advanced biology courses. Dr. Campbell completed his Ph.D. in
molecular biology at Johns Hopkins University and was a PEW
Teacher-Scholar at Washington University, St. Louis and Macalester
College before joining the Davidson faculty in 1994. He developed
Davidson's first genomics course and is currently Director of the
Genome Consortium for Active Teaching (GCAT). He also mentors students
conducting genomics and proteomics research and serves as coeditor-in-Chief
of the online journal, Cell Biology Education.
Laurie J. Heyer is an assistant professor of mathematics
at Davidson College in North Carolina. She received her B.S.
and M.S. from the University of Texas, Arlington and was an
operations research analyst with a defense company before
beginning her doctoral work in applied mathematics at the
University of Colorado, Boulder. After receiving her Ph.D.,
Dr. Heyer was a postdoctoral fellow in Waterman's computational
biology group at the University of Southern California. Her
primary specialty is mathematical modeling of biological systems.
Dr. Heyer joined the faculty of Davidson in 2000 and has developed
a course in computational biology, in addition to doing collaborative
research with students in bioinformatics. |
