Project 13: Wideo-on-Demand

[Project 12] [Projects Menu] [Project 14]

Team Size: 2
Duration: 3 weeks

Many companies are now moving ahead to create an electronic version of a video store. You have been asked to design and build the user interface that would allow browsing and selection from a database of up to 10,000 videos. Users could view programs at home through a fiber optic link. Users might chose a videotape simply from an alphabetical list of titles, but more imaginative access patterns should be created by you. Include a videotape control panel in your design. Analyze the problem, write down your requirements (functionality, hardware devices, assumptions about users), make a mockup, and then use Visual Basic to take care of appropriate functionality.

You must work in teams of two people. Where possible arrange for partnership between a graduate student and an undergraduate student. In no case should there be a team of two graduate students. You must choose a different team partner than for the last project. Submit the requirements and a user manual for the system that includes a complete set of screen prints. Be prepared to demonstrate and describe your design in class.

A file with a large number of video titles and information will hopefully be created for use by the entire class.
